Aurora Animal Care Center prides itself in providing mentorship opportunities that support individuals developing a knowledge base while pursuing higher education in the field of veterinary medicine. The externship experience we offer is hands-on and immerses you in the world of small animal veterinary medicine. It includes opportunities in preventive medicine, dentistry, surgery, and canine rehabilitation. The time spent in our clinics can be used to fulfill required externship experiences for completion of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. We are established with Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine with plans to expand to other veterinary schools as requested by students.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and support staff with routine examinations and procedures.
- Gain hands-on experience in veterinary surgery, diagnostics, and client communication.
- Participate in patient care activities such as administering medications, monitoring anesthesia, assisting in surgery, and providing post-operative care to our patients.
- Work side by side with veterinary professionals during consultations and assist in the creation of treatment plans and recommendations for patients.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a veterinary medicine program
What to Expect
- 30-35hrs per week with attending veterinarian
- Participation in surgeries
- Opportunities to utilize digital x-ray, ultrasound, and in house diagnostic and laboratory equipment
- Utilization of clinical skills including but not limited to venipuncture, catheter placement, vaccine and medication administration.
